Seeing the Second Wave Come to Life
Exciting things are happening at the National Museum of the Great Lakes as the Second Wave expansion project continues to take shape. We recently had the opportunity to tour the new 5,000-square-foot space, and it’s inspiring to see the blank canvas while envisioning the incredible transformation ahead.
One of the highlights is the seamless integration of the entryway to the St. Marys Challenger pilothouse with the new permanent exhibit space. This area will soon tell unique and captivating stories about Great Lakes boats, creating an immersive experience for visitors.

The new Great Lakes Community Education Center is another standout feature. Flooded with natural light, it feels warm and inviting—perfect for hosting workshops, lectures, and programs that connect our community to the history and wonder of the Great Lakes.

Our new team office space is equally inspiring, designed to foster collaboration and creativity as we continue to grow and serve our mission.

We can’t wait to see this space come together and look forward to sharing more updates with you as we near completion. Stay tuned for more glimpses behind the scenes of this transformative project!
