Museum Expansion Enclosed and On Schedule

Published: November 15, 2024

The National Museum of the Great Lakes’ Second Wave expansion reached an exciting milestone! As of this month, we are thrilled to report that our 5,000-square-foot addition is nearly fully enclosed. With the concrete floor poured and the roof nearing completion, the dream of this transformational project is becoming a tangible reality.

We’ve reached a significant step forward in our journey to create a space that not only celebrates the history of the Great Lakes but also prepares the museum for an exciting future of expanded exhibits, enhanced educational opportunities, and innovative programs.

A Vision Taking Shape

Standing inside the structure, it’s hard not to feel the excitement as the new space begins to reveal its potential. This addition is a cornerstone of our vision to become the gathering place for conversations surrounding the Great Lakes.

What’s Next?

With the roof installation wrapping up soon, we’ll move into the next stages: installing utilities, finalizing interior walls, and preparing the space for its future use. Stay tuned as we share more updates, including sneak peeks of what the completed addition will bring to our museum.
