Today’s Present is Tomorrow’s History

History is all about storytelling, and the recording of those stories.  The National Museum of the Great Lakes is leading off a project to gather stories to save history for tomorrow.  The Great Lakes Memory Project is a long term initiative to collect oral histories from people who have stories from living near, working on, or interacting with our Great Lakes.

A brief introduction to the Great Lakes Memory Project.

Paul and Lianne Genzman discuss life living and teaching on South Bass Island

Thomas Winston tells about his childhood in Chicago and how that led him to the Port of Toledo.

Pat Appold talks about fishing on the Great Lakes and her husband, Jim.

Hannah Hilbert extolls the virtues of diving in the Great Lakes.

Larry Bettcher explains his first interest in Great Lakes history and Le Griffon.

Paul LaMarre, III shares his deep family ties to the Great Lakes and the Col. James M. Schoonmaker.

Are you interested in contributing to this initiative? Consider starting with a submission to our ThrowBackThursday posts.
