National Museum of the Great Lakes Hosts Final Virtual Book Club Discussion of the Season
The National Museum of the Great Lakes invites readers, history buffs, and Great Lakes enthusiasts to join the final discussion of the museum’s 2025 Great Lakes Book Club. Grab your lunch and log in for an engaging, virtual conversation about The Salmon Capital of Michigan: The Rise and Fall of a Great Lakes Fishery by Carson Prichard.
Taking place via Zoom on April 1 at 12 pm, we’ll explore the personal and ecological impact of a once-thriving salmon fishery in Michigan’s Lake Huron communities. Prichard’s book weaves together oral histories, fisheries science, and environmental storytelling to reveal how the collapse of a key prey species led to the decline of a booming industry.
“The Great Lakes Book Club is a great chance to delve into stories of our region,” said Cris Shell, Experience Manager at the National Museum of the Great Lakes. “These stories are our stories, and I’m happy to have a place for our community to come together, discuss, and share.”
The Great Lakes Book Club is free to attend and open to all. Discussions take place virtually, making it accessible to participants from across the globe. Books can be purchased through the National Museum of the Great Lakes’ museum store or found at local libraries.
