Pittsburgh Steamship Company

The Pittsburgh Steamship Company was formed in 1899 and soon became a subsidiary of US Steel Corporation in 1901. At the company’s height, the Pittsburgh Steamship Company had the largest fleet in America totaling over 100 vessels. For a massive fleet, the company used massive flags like this ten-foot elongated swallowtail. It’s been recorded that the company even had flags that reached fifteen feet in length! A key feature of the flag’s design is the sixteen stars that surround the border. This flag design is known to be used before the 1930s. The company went through several iterations of flag design, be sure to check in later to compare some.
