United States Power Squadron

The United States Power Squadron (USPS) ensign is a variation of the United States Yacht ensign, featured in a previous post. Founded by Charles F. Chapman, in 1914, the USPS has earned a remarkable reputation serving the nation’s maritime community. Chapman is the creator of this flag which was officially adopted in 1915. Initially, the USPS focused on providing boaters with valuable knowledge and skills to navigate safely, and quickly became known for its comprehensive boating courses. As the organization grew, its mission expanded to include inspections, public education programs, and community outreach.

The USPS’s commitment to its mission has significantly reduced accidents and fatalities on U.S. waterways, ensuring a safer, more enjoyable experience for all who take to the nation’s lakes, rivers, and oceans.
