US Steel Great Lakes Fleet
The United States Steel Corporation was created in 1901 by three entrepreneurs, Andrew Carnegie, J.P. Morgan, and Charles Schwab. The newly developed company rapidly became the nation’s leading steel producer. One of the company’s subsidiaries was Pittsburgh Steamship Company (LINK) which was profiled earlier. This flag was used after 1967 when US Steel consolidated Pittsburgh Steam Ship and several other small fleets that had been purchased into the USS Great Lakes Fleet. The company’s logo is three letters, USS, as seen on this eight-foot rectangular flag.
