Southern Lake Erie Star Fleet

The Southern Lake Erie (SLE) Star Fleet is a small racing organization operating out of Lorain, Ohio. The SLE Star Fleet was founded by Albert Fred Wakefield in the early 1900s in Vermilion, Ohio. The club relocated to their current location in the 1950s. In 1965, the Star World Championship was held in Newport, California. During the week-long event of five races, Skipper Donald Bever and his crewmate C. Lewsadder of SLE Star Fleet placed first in two races in the field of thirty-five boats. They placed in the top five of the other three races. The pair earned 167 points based on their positions and won the world championship in their star boat, Mache
