Signal Flag G – “Golf”

The alternating yellow and blue vertical stripes correspond to the letter “G” in the English alphabet. When this flag is flown it signals that the vessel requires a pilot. A pilot is a substitute navigator who is more experienced with the waters in that area. This flag is commonly used when entering foreign ports. When salties enter the ports of Great Lakes this flag would be used.
