The month of August is always exciting for the town of Vermilion, Ohio. For three days, the Vermilion Boat Club holds its annual regatta, known as the South Shore Regatta.. In its first year, 1915, five boats entered the races. That first event drew in a massive crowd to bear witness. Since then, the regatta has grown exponentially in popularity each year. Seen in the images below are spectators in 1926 who traveled from neighboring cities and states to enjoy the festivities and races of the South Shore Regatta. They lined up their automobiles along the Vermilion River and held parties after the final race. These parties were the very early versions of what would transform into the Vermilion Fish Festival.
