The signal flag K, KILO, is represented on a square with the colors yellow and blue split into two vertical halves. When flown by itself it is asking to communicate with a nearby vessel. The signal flag KILO is one of the few flags that relates a message when two of them are flown together. When doubled , it relays the message that towing is impossible under the current weather conditions.
The signal flag W, WHISKEY, is a square flag with a blue border, an inner white border, and a red square at the center. This flag is flown when a person or persons on board require medical assistance.
