Cleveland Yacht Club Auxiliary Races

Throughout the boating season, Cleveland Yacht Club hosts several races for all yacht class types. In the mid-1940s, CYC held auxiliary races from their club in Rocky River on Lake Erie. An auxiliary vessel is a sail vessel that also has a motor. The boat heavily depends on wind as its main power source, but as a reserve an inboard motor is there to assist in entering and leaving dock, navigating heavy seas, emergencies, and in specific cases, used in auxiliary racing events. Learn more about these boats in our post about the Falcon Cup.
