Iceboating
Iceboating
Iceboating has long been a sport as well as a recreation, since the 17th century. Because the city of Toledo is located on the Maumee, it is common to see these sail boats on metal runners racing at the mouth of the river and making use of smooth ice. Iceboating has been on Lake Erie since the 19th century and has been a part of Toledo history for over 100 years. Today, it is a very competitive and fun activity for all ages to enjoy the frozen waters.
