Homeschool Series

This event has already taken place. Browse upcoming events.

Each month, the National Museum of the Great Lakes invites homeschoolers to dive into the important role of the Great Lakes socio-ecological system through this STEAM-based monthly homeschool series. Each month will cover a different topic with guided inquiry-based learning and fun hands-on activities.

Homeschooling Session 1:

Our September Homeschooling focus is on nature journaling. We’ll have an introduction to why nature journaling is a valuable year-round practice that focuses attention and strengthens our relationship to our environment. We’ll learn effective ways to use the prompts I Notice, I Wonder, and It Reminds Me Of… – to record words, numbers and pictures in our journals.

Complimentary nature journaling kits that include pencils, brushes, a small watercolor palette and a starter journal will be provided. The activity is appropriate for a broad range of abilities and no art experience is expected.

Homeschoolers are encouraged to bring their journal back each month for journaling time before or after homeschooling sessions.
