Spring Lecture Series: Great Lakes Champions

April 19 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

UPDATED 2023 Spring Lecture #3 Banner

Join us for the third and final presentation of our 2023 Spring Lecture Series. Offered as a hybrid event, participants can choose when registering to take part in a live-streamed watch party in-person at the museum or online via Zoom. This lecture’s topic is Great Lakes Champions: Grassroot Efforts to Clean Up Polluted Watersheds.

ABOUT THE LECTURE:

The Great Lakes have suffered greatly from human use and abuse since the advent of the commercial fur trade in the late 1600s. But progress is being made, and at the helm are local champions—people with a profound love of the region who lead by example and build broad, diverse coalitions in order to realize a common vision. Join author and award-winning conservationist John Hartig as we explore the history and stories of inspiring individuals working to make the Great Lakes watershed a cleaner, better place to live.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

John Hartig is a Visiting Scholar at University of Windsor’s Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research and serves on the Board of Directors of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy. For 14 years he served as Refuge Manager for the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge. John has received numerous awards for his conservationist work and has authored or co-authored 140 publications on the environment, including eight books. John’s recent book Waterfront Porch won a 2020 Next Generation Indie Book Award in the “nature/environment” category.
