Capt. Scupper’s Songfest: Maritime Music & Movement

April 15, 2023 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

- $5 – $15

Join us 3 Saturdays this Spring for the return of Capt. Scupper’s Songfest—a maritime music and movement class taught in partnership with Sing into Reading. This fun activity targeting our youngest maritime enthusiasts gives kids the chance to build a love of reading through music that incorporates a “Great Lakes twist.”

Children ages 0-6 and their parents will spend 30 minutes exploring maritime themes through music and movement followed by open play in the Museum’s “Port of Play” and exploration of the museum. Non-member visitors wishing to also explore the museum vessels may do so for an additional cost.

Register on Eventbrite

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Registration is $5 for NMGL member children and $15 for non-member children per class (price includes free museum-only admission for one adult and child).*

  • Each class is limited to 20 kids and their grownups with a target size of 12-15.
  • The class is designed for ages birth to 6 but older children are welcome to register.
  • This program is an eligible free program for Museums For All participants.**

Not an NMGL member? Consider a membership that includes year-long and seasonal access to the museum, museum store, program discounts, and more. Visit nmgl.org/membership to learn more.

* Member Children are defined as children who are a part of a family or grandparent membership.

** Thanks in part to the funding support of Craig’s Keyboards, this program is available for free to individuals who qualify for Museums For All—a new access program at the National Museum of the Great Lakes where those receiving food assistance (SNAP benefits) can gain free or reduced admission using their SNAP EBT card. ABOUT THIS PROGRAM’S SUPPORTER: This program is brought to you in part by Criag’s Keyboards. Since 1971, Craig’s Keyboards has been providing new and used pianos and digital pianos to private owners and institutions in Northwest Ohio. Thanks to the generosity of Craig’s Keyboards, the museum is able to continue Captain Scuppers Songfest’s early childhood literacy-base program, while working to make it more accessible.
