EDGAR B. SPEER in Layup
Edgar B. Speer in Layup
The Edgar B. Speer laid up in Toledo on October 31, 2020. The Speer had a very short season in 2020, coming out of layup in Duluth in April and ceasing travel on July 21. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Great Lakes shipping was down and large vessels like the 1000’ Speer were not needed.
The forward section of the Edgar B. Speer was built in Toledo and then, in 1980, pushed to Lorain where it was put with the stern section built there. The vessel’s final dimensions are 1,004 feet long, 105 feet wide, and has a loaded draft of 32 feet.
