Preserve History
Contribute to our Collection
Every artifact has a story. By donating a piece of Great Lakes history to the National Museum of the Great Lakes, you can help preserve that story for future generations. Learn more about our collection process and how to submit an artifact for consideration.
The National Museum of the Great Lakes accepts artifact donations that further our mission to preserve, share, and celebrate the past, present, and future of the Great Lakes story. All donations are reviewed by the Collections Committee to determine if the donation fits the museum’s mission and if the museum has the appropriate space and resources to care for the donated item. Committee review occurs on a monthly basis.
If you are interested in donating an item to the National Museum of the Great Lakes, please fill out the form below and someone will contact you about the next steps.
We do not accept donations of archival materials or books, nor do we accept artifacts on long-term loan. Artifacts accepted into the collection are not guaranteed to be on display.
If you have questions about a previously donated item, please contact the collections department at collections@nmgl.org.
